Volendam, A Pretty Harbor Village.

Volendam is the name of a village in the Netherlands. It is located in the western harbor area in Edam, precisely in the province of Noord-Holland, Netherlands. Volendam is an attractive tourist spot for tourists from outside the Netherlands and for Dutch tourists themselves.

Volendam, A Picturesque Port Town

Precisely in the spring months of May 2010 and then I was with my friend who went to Volendam. We depart from Den Haag Central Station with train ride to Amsterdam. Then we went on a trip from Amsterdam to Edam bus to the majors. We reached the village of Volendam, Edam one area before, about eleven o'clock.

Originally, Volendam is a harbor, near Edam, which lies at the mouth of the river. At 1357, the population of Edam dug a shorter canal to the Zuiderzee with its own separate port. This eliminates the need for the original harbor, which was then dammed and used for rekamasi. Local farmers and fishermen settled there, forming new communities Vollendam. 

The majority of the population are Roman Catholics, which is closely connected with the village culture. Historically, many missionaries and bishops, who grew up in Volendam.

Volendam is a popular attraction in the Netherlands, famous for its old fishing boats and traditional clothing still worn by some residents. Volendam costume for women, with high, pointed hat, is one of the best known of the traditional Dutch costumes, and often appear in tourist postcards and posters (although there are believed to be less than a few women today who wear costumes as part of everyday life -their day, most of them elderly).

Volendam also features a small museum about the history and style of clothing, and visitors can take pictures in traditional Dutch costumes. Do not forget to try to take pictures with a Dutch lady style. ;)

Once I got in Volendam, I started down the road. We were given only 2 hours to around Volendam. If so, I do not want to waste time. I'm not interested in shopping, but I'm very interested to observe the fishing village.

The old house with a home-modern dress, for example by making vertical blinds. Materials curtained windows of the house - a traditional house using wooden boards and painted according to personal taste - each occupant. All the houses without fences, adjacent to each other. Backyard, most of the same area between their families, full of stuff - stuff that is a hobby from each - each occupant, such as plants, flowers, ceramics, sculpture and even toys for children - kids and bikes.

Fish and Chips .... With Heineken and mayonnaise and some vegetables (cabbage and carrots): Coleslaw, and where I eat lunch. Sitting on the beach while enjoying the scenery Volendam sunny afternoon is a pleasure in itself. While looking at boats and ships that lined the shore and looked into the distance where the big ships do not appear until close to the beach. Calm down it seems. My friends and I live in Volendam until the sun almost set. Patat food, french fries, sliced rectangles, a popular food in the Netherlands. Volendam is a picturesque port town.

After eating, I still had time to observe the longer view of Volendam. I take a walk around the village. Then to the souvenir shop, I observed the exterior and interior architecture of the houses are lined up neatly with a beautifully unique. 2 pm, we passed the village of Volendam. Still want to take a walk here, but our time is up. Next, we walked to the village of Edam which is a village famous for producing cheese. Volendam left a deep impression on my heart. And someday I want to go back again .....
